Dear
Friends:
We will
be hosting along with the Golden Benefit committee and Mrs.
New York America the Mark Farruggia 11th Annual Golden
Benefit Charity Golf Classic and Dinner, Pride of NY Wine
and Cheese Tasting on July 19, 2008 for Hunter's
Hope Foundation and Neuromuscular Disease Center at
the University of Rochester Medical Center at Conesus
Golf Club, Conesus, New York. We would appreciate your
participation as a golfer, dinner guest, company sponsor or
gift-in-kind sponsor to raise money for both of these fine
groups.
Mark started
the Golden Benefit Charity Golf Classic because he had his
life altered by Charcot-Marie-Tooth or CMT, the most commonly
inherited neurological disorder, affecting 1 out of 2,500
people or approximately 150,000 Americans. CMT is found world-wide
in all races and ethnic groups. It was discovered in 1886
by three physicians, Jean-Martin-Charcot, Pierre Marie, and
Howard Henry Tooth.
Hunter's
Hope Foundation was established in 1997 by Pro Football Hall
of Fame member and former Buffalo Bills Quarterback, Jim Kelly,
and his wife, Jill, after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed
with Krabbe Leukodystrophy, an inherited, fatal, nervous system
disease. The Foundation is the Kelly's life long commitment
to increase public awareness of leukodystrophies as well as
to increase the likelihood of early detection and treatment.
Their ultimate goal is to raise money to fund research efforts,
identify new treatments, therapies, and a cure for Krabbe
and other leukodystrophies.
The Neuromuscular
Disease Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center
offers state-of-the-art comprehensive care to over 4,500 patients
affected by neuropathy, ALS, muscular dystrophy, myasthenia
gravis, and other neuromuscular disorders. The Center strives
to provide patients and their families with the tools, resources,
and emotional support they need to understand and meet the
challenges of their diseases so they can live their lives
to the fullest. Physicians and scientists at the Center are
actively involved in research to uncover the mysteries of
these neuromuscular disorders and to develop new treatments.
Sincerely,
Mark Farruggia
